Young Adults
The path of emerging adulthood which begins in the late teens and leads us through the twenties, is characterized by experiences of self-discovery and self-doubt, excitements and anxieties in the quest to discover identity and meaning.
The challenges of this stage include searching for satisfying work, learning to make choices about education, income, friends, and love, accepting responsibility for the consequences of one’s choices, and becoming independent. The emotional changes required are enormous. Therapy can help with clearing out the emotional residue of adolescence while strengthening the self that is developing.
Parents of Young Adults
Launching Adult Children from the perspective of parents involves understanding that ideas about what constitutes maturity are rapidly changing as new generations are faced with different economic and social realities. Throughout the phase of young adulthood, children continue to benefit from support while the parents navigate through their own developmental stage of “letting go”. For the parent, establishing the right balance between supporting your child and refocusing on your own intimate and creative needs can be tricky.
